Summary

An ingenious code hidden in the works of Leonardo da Vinci。 A desperate race through the cathedrals and castles of Europe。 An astonishing truth concealed for centuries 。 。 。 unveiled at last。

While in Paris, Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is awakened by a phone call in the dead of the night。 The elderly curator of the Louvre has been murdered inside the museum, his body covered in baffling symbols。 As Langdon and gifted French cryptologist Sophie Neveu sort through the bizarre riddles, they are stunned to discover a trail of clues hidden in the works of Leonardo da Vinci—clues visible for all to see and yet ingeniously disguised by the painter。

Even more startling, the late curator was involved in the Priory of Sion—a secret society whose members included Sir Isaac Newton, Victor Hugo, and Da Vinci—and he guarded a breathtaking historical secret。 Unless Langdon and Neveu can decipher the labyrinthine puzzle—while avoiding the faceless adversary who shadows their every move—the explosive, ancient truth will be lost forever。

This is the second time I read this book。 Shocker, given the rating。 My opinion since the first read didn't change, but I think a 2。5 would probably be fairest。 This book is action and cliffhangers, which, admiteddly, did make me want to read it more and more。。。 A shame everything about the mystery is so hammered down my throat and the characters are mostly flat and boring, if not nonsensical at times。 This is the second time I read this book。 Shocker, given the rating。 My opinion since the first read didn't change, but I think a 2。5 would probably be fairest。 This book is action and cliffhangers, which, admiteddly, did make me want to read it more and more。。。 A shame everything about the mystery is so hammered down my throat and the characters are mostly flat and boring, if not nonsensical at times。 。。。more

I enjoyed how the puzzle unraveled。Interesting ideas about the life, legacy and bloodline of Jesus, the holy grail and how the Church framed women as bad news (as opposed to the Pagan view of women as sacred and the givers of life)。

It's a treasure map with an intriguing way of learning about history。 I never imagined reading a book about knights and myths about the ancient BC and actually loving it。 The movie has nothing on the book。 It's a treasure map with an intriguing way of learning about history。 I never imagined reading a book about knights and myths about the ancient BC and actually loving it。 The movie has nothing on the book。 。。。more

The ultimate page turner。 Nothing fancy - the book does a great job making you feel smart, while really just self serving you spotty research。 If you take this book seriously, you'll find yourself rolling your eyes at the cliffhangers and the "all of a sudden realization of the solution before our very eyes"。 If you don't, you find yourself with the perfect beach book that is extremely entertaining。 The ultimate page turner。 Nothing fancy - the book does a great job making you feel smart, while really just self serving you spotty research。 If you take this book seriously, you'll find yourself rolling your eyes at the cliffhangers and the "all of a sudden realization of the solution before our very eyes"。 If you don't, you find yourself with the perfect beach book that is extremely entertaining。 。。。more

。。。more

I absolutely love mysteries。 That was why I was originally drawn to The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown。 Little did I know I would end up falling in love with it for so many more reasons。 I thought the book was written with such a perfect tone, had twists and trunks in the plot all at the perfect time, lastly, the book had the perfect amount of layers and details; a lot would be gouging but in a way that it was all linked and not too confusing。 I would give this book a well-deserved 5 out of 5 stars r I absolutely love mysteries。 That was why I was originally drawn to The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown。 Little did I know I would end up falling in love with it for so many more reasons。 I thought the book was written with such a perfect tone, had twists and trunks in the plot all at the perfect time, lastly, the book had the perfect amount of layers and details; a lot would be gouging but in a way that it was all linked and not too confusing。 I would give this book a well-deserved 5 out of 5 stars rating。 Throughout the book, I was just so encaptured by the tone present due to the choice of words, and with the complexities of the plot, it was just all so engaging。 This story is about symbologist Robert Langdon。 Langdon is brought into the story to help essentially solve the murder of a curator at the Lourve。 Upon the death of the curator, he leaves behind a secret message/mission which Langdon is destined to figure and carry out。 He does this with the help of the late curator’s granddaughter, Sophie Neveu, a cryptologist。 While doing so they realize all of this was connected to much bigger things。 Things such as secret societies and mysteries of the catholic church。Whether Langdon and Neveu were in the heat of escaping danger or more simply relieved from making it out of a situation alive the tone was spot on。 Throughout the story the details which were described so well made it seem as if you were in the story yourself。 From the first to the last page this is present。 On page one, it read “outside the sealed gate, the mountainous silhouette of his attacker stared through the iron bars。 He was broad and tall, with ghost-pale skin and thinking white hair。 His irises were pink with dark red pupils” (Brown 1)。 Just on the first page, you can feel the ominous presence simply by the description given。 This great detail is carried out till the very last page: “Like the murmurs of spirits in the darkness, forgotten words echoed… with a sudden upwelling of reference, Robert Langdon fell to his knees。 For a moment, he thought he heard a woman’s voice … the wisdom of the ages… whispering up from the chasms of the earth” (Brown 454)。 Even on the last page such word choice still has such an effect。 While finishing the book I think these last words created a sense of accomplishment in the story and as the reader, leaving the feeling of completion and purpose in doing what you do。 This paired with the multi-level interconnected complexities of the plot The DaVinci Code was able to outshine other books。 Without wanting to give any major parts of the polt away I still want to emphasise on this。 This book definitely had a lot going on at once; I would say this was in the best way though。 The plot always thickened right at a perfect time, while still being unexpected turned around at the perfect times。 One could argue the plot had two stories but if anything it was more in two perspectives because they were impeccably woven together throughout the story in various ways。 This all made The DaVinci Code even better than it already was。 So for anyone looking for a very descriptive mystery full of twists and turns then I would hand down recommend this to you。 I gave this book a five out of five because I seemed to really enjoy this and was able to follow along even when it got a little。 By this, if you tend to get hung up when things get a little complicatedly intertwined then I wouldn’t suggest it but if you don't tend to do that or don’t mind being a little confused at times then I’d definitely recommend it。 。。。more
